CONTEXT
The fast fashion industry, characterized by rapid delivery times and low-cost production, has led to excessive consumption, waste, and exploitation. The sector's use of non-renewable resources, such as water and petroleum-based fabrics, contributes to pollution, climate change, and habitat destruction.
Free returns increase online shopping, yet users still struggle with selecting the right size, style, or fit. Up to 40% of online fashion purchases are returned, costing the industry $101 billion annually, with returns causing 15 million tons of CO2 emissions per year, according to Optoro.
CONCEPT
I aimed to address the environmental and logistical challenges in fast fashion by creating a sustainable and user-friendly shopping experience for second-hand clothing. My goals were to build trust in purchasing used apparel, offer a personalized shopping experience, and raise awareness of eco-friendly consumption practices.
DESIGN PROCESS
My research methodology included:
Desk Research: Analyzing documents, reports, case studies, statistical data, and online publications.
User Interviews: Conducting interviews with online shoppers aged 22-28 to understand their difficulties with size, style, and fit.
I examined case studies from companies such as Lalaland.AI, Outfit Anyone AI, EyeFitU, and Pixyle.AI.

Based on insights from interviews and web observation, I first designed the UX, then moved to UI design, and finally prototyped the app, which I decided to call Tangle.
KEY FEATURES OF TANGLE
To bring my ideas to life, I prototyped various user flows using Figma. These prototypes demonstrated how users could navigate and interact with the new features, providing an immersive and engaging shopping experience while addressing environmental concerns.
Personal Avatar: Tangle generates a body avatar through scanning, suggesting perfect outfits for your body type, thus reducing returns.
Virtual Try-On: See how clothes fit your avatar before purchasing, making online shopping more engaging and precise.
Tangle Shopping Assistant: A personal shopping assistant that knows your style and preferences, providing tailored search experiences and outfit suggestions.
Auto-Tagging AI: Automatically extracts product characteristics using the camera, making the selling process efficient and providing buyers with detailed, reliable information.
RESULTS
Introducing advanced technologies into the fashion sector offers an improved and personalized shopping experience for users while taking significant steps towards sustainability. This integration of innovation and sustainability is key to a responsible future.
I presented my project at Talent Garden in front of a panel of professionals, including Andrea Caperni, Design Director at Sketchin; Martina Carta, Visual Designer at Sketchin; and Manuela Paniccia, Senior UX/UI Designer & Prototyper at Sketchin.
The project received praise for its user experience design, its ability to effectively and tangibly illustrate new ways of experiencing and purchasing clothing products online, and it was highly appreciated for its tone of voice and strong visual identity.
